What Maternly provides
Maternly helps UK teachers understand and plan Shared Parental Leave. The service can collect your answers, estimate pay, compare standard maternity pay with an SPL plan, generate planning summaries, prepare Shared Parental Leave forms and provide support with maternity and SPL forms and policies while you plan.
- Free plan: teacher-specific questionnaire, personalised SPL opportunity estimate, potential additional full-pay weeks and estimated additional gross pay.
- Teacher Support: all Free features, standard maternity pay vs SPL comparison, monthly SPL pay view, the calculations, figures and dates needed for your forms, a generated Maternly Shared Parental Leave intent and booking-notice form pack, and AI chat support while you plan. Depending on your school’s forms, you may need to copy the supplied details into them yourself.
- Teacher Support +: all Teacher Support features, plus support with all maternity and Shared Parental Leave forms and policies, two expert reviews and priority email support. Automatic completion depends on the form.
After you buy
Paid access normally starts as soon as payment is successful. You may need to finish the questionnaire, upload documents or provide extra details before every feature can produce a useful result.
Teacher Support + review starts once we have the information needed to review your plan. If important information is missing, we may ask you for it before the review can be completed.
Guidance only
Maternly is a planning and guidance tool. It is not legal, financial, tax, payroll, HR or employment advice.
Schools, local authorities, academy trusts and payroll providers can apply policies differently. You are responsible for checking your final dates, pay, notices and forms with your school HR team, payroll provider, union or another qualified adviser before relying on them.
Pay estimates and changing rules
Pay figures are estimates based on the information you enter, current known rates and the policy assumptions selected in the tool. They are usually shown as gross estimates before tax, pension, student loan, childcare vouchers, salary sacrifice, payroll timing and other deductions.
Statutory rates, school policies, payroll practice, term dates, neonatal leave rules and childcare rules can change. Always check the latest position before submitting notices or making financial decisions.
Your account and information
You are responsible for keeping your login details safe and for making sure the information you enter is accurate, complete and up to date.
Only upload documents and personal information that are relevant to your SPL planning. If a document includes another person's details, make sure you have permission to use it for this purpose.
Plans, prices and payment
Prices, plan names and included features are shown before checkout. Paid plans are normally charged as a one-off payment unless clearly stated otherwise.
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card details. Access to paid features may start once payment is successful.
- We may run limited-time offers, discounts or launch pricing.
- We may change prices or plan features in the future, but this will not reduce the paid access you have already bought for your current plan.
- If a payment fails, is reversed or appears fraudulent, we may pause or remove paid access while we investigate.
Cancellations and refunds
Your statutory rights are not affected by these terms.
Where you buy paid digital access, we may ask you to confirm that you want access to start straight away. If you agree and then use the paid digital tools, generated documents, AI support or review service, your right to cancel may end once the relevant digital content is supplied or the service is completed.
If something has gone wrong, email support@maternly.co.uk. We will review refund requests fairly and aim to keep the process straightforward.
- We will refund you where required by law, including where paid digital content or services are faulty, not as described or not provided.
- We will normally refund duplicate charges, accidental wrong-plan purchases reported promptly, or cases where you could not access the paid service through no fault of your own.
- Refunds are normally made back to the original payment method.
- To ask for a cancellation or refund, email the account email address, the plan purchased, the payment date and a short explanation of what happened.
Changed circumstances
Your plan can be affected if your maternity leave starts earlier than expected, your baby arrives early or late, your salary changes, your working pattern changes, your partner's details change, your school updates its policy or final term dates become available.
If something material changes, update your answers or contact support before relying on the plan. If an expert review has already been completed, further review may depend on the plan you bought and the amount of new work needed.
Shared Parental Leave forms and acceptance
Document tools are designed to save time by using your saved details and uploaded files to prepare draft forms and summaries. They do not guarantee that a school, local authority, academy trust or payroll provider will accept the wording, dates or approach.
You are responsible for checking names, dates, pay figures, notice periods, signatures, deadlines and school-specific requirements before sending anything.
Teacher Support and expert review
Teacher Support and Teacher Support + are designed to help with your Maternly plan and related maternity and Shared Parental Leave forms and policies. They do not cover wider employment disputes, union casework, grievances, tribunal advice or negotiations with your employer.
For Teacher Support +, we will send an initial response to a support request within 24 calendar hours, including weekends and bank holidays. This does not guarantee that a complex issue will be resolved within that period, a particular outcome or direct contact with your school.
We aim to complete an expert review within 24 calendar hours after receiving a complete submission, including weekends and bank holidays. If important information is missing, the 24-hour review period starts when we have the required plan and documents.
Teacher Support + adds an expert review to help spot obvious issues, missing information or wording that may need attention before you submit. An expert review is still guidance only and is not a guarantee that your plan is legally correct, financially optimal, accepted by your school or free from error.
More
AI chat and generated outputs
Maternly may use AI tools to help answer questions, summarise information, draft plans and prepare forms. AI can make mistakes, miss context or produce wording that needs checking.
You should review all outputs carefully before submitting forms, making leave decisions or sharing information with your school.
Document uploads
For supported cases, Maternly deterministically prepares a pre-filled SPL form draft and separate booking notices from the frozen saved strategy. The draft is based on a pinned ACAS template but is not reviewed or endorsed by ACAS, and it may still require manual completion.
If your plan includes expert review, you may separately add policy files as reference evidence and school or local-authority forms for human help. Those additional files are not automatically checked or completed by the ACAS form validator. An authorised reviewer may explicitly try Maternly’s existing form-filling tool against one submitted school form, but must still inspect the internal draft and explicitly publish the exact reviewer output before it is shown to you as completed or amended.
Maternly does not complete signatures, National Insurance numbers, bank details or declarations that must be personally confirmed by you or your partner.
Acceptable use
Please use Maternly lawfully and respectfully. You must not misuse the service or try to interfere with its security or availability.
- Do not attempt to access accounts, files or admin areas that are not yours.
- Do not upload malware, unlawful content or documents you do not have permission to use.

Availability and changes
We aim to keep Maternly available and useful, but we cannot promise uninterrupted access. We may need to update, pause or remove parts of the service for maintenance, security, legal or product reasons.
We may improve or change features over time. If a change materially affects a paid feature you have already bought, we will try to give reasonable notice or provide a fair alternative.
Intellectual property
Maternly, including its design, text, calculations, workflows, templates, software and branding, belongs to us or our licensors.
You may use outputs generated for your own SPL planning and school communications. You must not sell, publish or reuse Maternly materials as a commercial template or competing service without permission.
Our responsibility to you
We do not exclude or limit liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
Maternly is designed to support planning, not to make final employment, legal, payroll or financial decisions for you. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not responsible for losses caused by inaccurate information you enter, decisions made without checking with the right adviser, school-specific policy differences or events outside our reasonable control.
Ending access
You can stop using Maternly at any time and permanently delete your account from the Account page, subject to records our payment providers are allowed or required to keep.
We may suspend or end access if you seriously breach these terms, misuse the service, fail to pay for paid access or create a security, legal or operational risk.
Privacy
Our privacy policy explains how we collect, use and protect personal information when you use Maternly.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you may also have rights under the laws that apply where you live.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Maternly develops or if legal, technical or operational requirements change. The latest version will be published on this page.
