A little about us

Hi, we're the family behind Maternly.

Hannah is a primary school teacher, and Brad is her fiancé and a product manager in finance. We started our own maternity leave journey in 2024 with our first child.

As we tried to get our head around the paperwork, we came across Shared Parental Leave and the potential benefits of taking it. Once we worked through the dates, school holidays and pay, we realised that a carefully planned SPL pattern could make a real difference financially for our family.

We now have two children and have been through the process a couple of times ourselves. For us, understanding our options unlocked thousands of pounds in additional income, but it also showed us just how difficult this information can be to find and understand.

Why we built it

The tool we wish we'd had in 2024.

Maternly grew from the hard lessons we learned by working through Shared Parental Leave. Once we understood what might be possible, we kept thinking, "Why is something that should be helping teachers so difficult to work out?"

So we built Maternly together. We want to help other teachers across the country understand their options and see whether a similar approach could help their family without having to do all of the research alone.

We also want to keep it genuinely affordable. Parental leave is not the moment most families want another large bill.

From our family to yours

We want more teachers to know what may be possible.

Our experience made a meaningful financial difference to our family. Every teacher's dates and circumstances are different, so we cannot promise the same result for everyone — but we can make the information clearer and help you explore your own options with confidence.

Maternly provides planning guidance and estimates, not legal or financial advice. Please check your final dates, forms and entitlements with your school HR or payroll team, or your union, before submitting anything.

See what could work for your family.

Start with your own dates and school holidays, and explore your options at your own pace.
